How Bail Works in Ontario County, New York
After an arrest in Ontario County, a defendant may be held until a bail amount is set by the court or according to a local bail schedule.
Bail allows a person to be released from custody while their case is pending, usually by posting cash bail, using a bail bond company, or being released on personal recognizance (PR bond) when eligible.
Bail amounts depend on the severity of charges, criminal history, flight risk, and local court rules.
To post bail, contact the Ontario County jail or the court clerk handling the case.
A bail bondsman may charge a non-refundable fee (often around 10% of the total bail amount) if you cannot pay the full amount in cash.
If bail is denied or set too high, a defense attorney can request a bail reduction hearing.
